I have a number of thoughts on “cloud” computing, but that’s for another day.
With the advent of Document Management built in to QuickBooks 2010, we are introduced to the cloud. The big advantage of cloud computing? Well, there’s not having to maintain applications/etc. on your own hardware. But perhaps just as big, if not bigger, is the ability to access information anywhere you have access to the Web.
Well, not quite.
Due to unfortunate circumstances, Apple’s iPhone does not support Adobe Flash. The ramification of this is that any QuickBooks cloud app is unable to be used on the iPhone. This is a severe limitation on the benefit of the cloud with respect to QuickBooks apps.
Just think — wouldn’t it be nice to be able to access the documents you save in the Document Center from your iPhone? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to access dashboards, customer and sales information, vendors and bill information, that was maintained in the cloud on your iPhone?
Just think of all the useful applications that could be developed for the cloud if it also meant those applications could be run on the iPhone.
